Meera Krishnanand Kanageswaran founder and director of confidance bharatham is known for her natural flair for expressive dance (Abinaya) from a very young age. Meera performed in stage productions all over Germany and is appreciative to have had the rare opportunity to have performed with her Guru at various shows. After moving to Canada, she continued her passion in Bharathanatyam, where she predominantly participated in numerous dance ballets including Veera Thai as “Veera Thai”, Pandara Vaniyan as “Pandara Vaniyan” and Silapathigaram as “Kannaki”.

During the years 2000 to 2002, Meera was actively involved in introducing Bharathanatyam to the Christian community. She was teaching at a church and also choreographed dances for contemporary Christian music. She performed at many church conventions including a youth assemble at the Mel Lastman Square. She was invited to Switzerland to perform at a church conference as well as to conduct Bharathanatyam workshops on how to choreograph Christian dances.

Meera had the distinct pleasure to perform with the Muralidharans in India, Canada and US. In January 2007, Meera performed at the Naradha Gana Sabha, as part of the Chennai Music festival. In October 2007 Meera presented a full length solo performance called “Margam – Expressions of the Divine”. She has also toured South Africa with the Janak Khendry Dance Company. In 2015, Meera performed with her students as “Thamayanthi” in the dance drama “Nala Charitham”.

In 2016, Confidance Bharatham celebrated its tenth anniversary.  The most recent production, Destructive Desires, was an original work conceptualized and choreographed by Meera Kanageswaran.  This contemporary dance production touched on the sensitive topic of materialism and the relationship people have with money.  In Meera’s pursuit of broadening her vision of using Bharathanatyam to tell present day stories in a secular way, she is currently working closely with Nova Bhattacharya under a mentorship program funded by Ontario Arts Council.

As a teacher Meera is passionate about keeping the authenticity of Bharathanatyam in basic training while encouraging students to explore new ideas and individual creativity. Meera’s unique vision is to create and nurture confidence in each and every one of her dance students.
